  6. Pantani won both the Tour and Giro d'Italia in 1998. Pantani died of a cocaine overdose in 2004.
  7. Perhaps the greatest road cyclist of all-time the only man to have won the Tour seven times. A feat he completed in consecutive years.
  8. Oscar Pereiro was awarded Tour de France victory after Floyd Landis was disqualified for failing doping tests.
  9. Contador has also won the Giro d'Italia and currently rides at the head of Lance Armstrong's team UCI ProTeam Astana.
  10. Sastre pipped Aussie Cadel Evans for Tour victory in 2008. Climbing remains his big strength.
