  2. Davis is an Australian professional road racing cyclist for UCI ProTeam Quick Step, and is known for his sprinting. He raced in the 2004, 2005 Tours, coming fifth in the points classification for the green jersey in his last ride. He recently won the 2009 Tour Down Under.
  3. Klöden is a German road racer for UCI ProTour Team Astana. He is an Olympic bronze medalist, and placed second in the 2004, and 2006 Tours. Kloden is a real threat, but is prone to injury .
  4. The Spaniard is the great unknown. He has been up and around the top of the road racing pack since turning professional in 2001, but is yet to crack a big race win. The tour could be his chance.
  5. What do you say about Armstrong that has not already been said a thousand times? He has won the sport’s ultimate prize a record seven-consecutive times, and has recently returned to cycling after a short retirement in a bid to claim his eight Tour victory. You can never dismiss the chances of one of sports most dogged competitors, even at the age of 37.
  6. The American rides for UCI ProTeam Astana and is in good form, after a bronze in the time trial event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He recently won the Tour of California for the third-consecutive time, and is hungry for a Tour win. He sat out the event last year after his team was linked to an earlier drug scandal.
  7. Australian Cadel Evans has much to motivate him. He has the highest Tour de France finishes for an Australian, coming second in 2007 and 2008, and he is determined not to be the bridesmaid again in 2009.
